I remember the exact day. Nine years. I truly believe there will never be anyone (of our generation) who is as genuinely beautiful, classy, and just a humble & good person overall as much as Aaliyah was. There is almost NO ONE in the present day who matches her style, which seamlessly combined sharp, hard-hitting hip hop beats with her sweet, delicate vocals. No one even comes close. (Ciara who?) Aaliyah was truly SEXY, and she didn’t have to show her body off to convey that… she just exuded it. A humble person, too. She never sold herself out, never flaunted flashy shit, never had extravagant haircuts or style changes, never heard about her getting into trouble (well except the whole R. Kelly thing, but after that, she was good). I really feel that when Aaliyah passed, she left a void in music, and nine years later it has yet to be filled. I’m kind of glad though. Nobody can or ever will compare, at least not for a very long time. January 16, 1979 - August 25, 2001.Rest in Paradise Babygirl.
*The great DJ Mike Rizzy created a mix of Aaliyah’s Best back in March, support & peep it here.

Last year’s tribute. “Ciara who?” Ha.
Be sure to check out DJ Mike Rizzy’s Aaliyah mix if you have not yet, the link to which I included at the end.
